Wetar Ground-dove has been recorded at only three localities in West Timor and is only known by ~20 specimens. The dove was released back to the wild in November 2004.

Biodiversity impacts of the Asian tsunami tragedy.
The direct impacts of the tsunami on birds and other biodiversity are thought likely to include direct mortality, damage to forests, damage to conservation infrastructure and damage to wetlands (read more on the BirdLife International's website from the link above). The Critically Endangered Silvery Wood-pigeon Columba argentina is a restricted-range species that occurs on the Simeulue and Mentawai Islands that lie of the coast off Sumatra close to the epicentre of the earthquake. Parts of these islands are low-lying and the forest habitat of these birds could have been significantly affected by the tsunami.
