These organisations are all working towards the conservation of the Turtle Dove Streptopelia turtur in the UK where it has experienced rapid population declines both historically and in recent years. It is not a globally threatened species but is 'red-listed' in the UK. Detailed conservation measures for the Turtle Dove have been formulated as a species action plan as part of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UKBAP). The Turtle Dove is a farmland dependent species and current conservation effects are mostly generic efforts directed towards conserving all farmland dependent bird species. For example, the RSPB provides conservation advice to about 1,500 farmers and crofters every year.
