Madeira Laurel Pigeon Columba Trocaz (Near Threatened)
Paulo Oliveira studied the Madeira Laurel Pigeon for his doctorate at the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. He successfully completed his thesis entitled "Conservation and ecology of the endemic Madeira Laurel Pigeon Columba trocaz" in 2003.

There are two threatened pigeon species in the Canary islands, the Endangered White-tailed Laurel Pigeon Columba junoniae and the Near Threatened Dark-tailed Laurel Pigeon Columba bollii.
